Operations Manager (Transmission & Distribution)

A growing electrical contractor is hiring an Operations Manager to build and lead its Ohio transmission and distribution business. The company installs and maintains overhead and underground T&D systems for utility clients, and its Dayton-area office is small, local, and ready to grow. This leader manages the project managers and estimators, approves every bid and contract, and owns the division’s financial results. It is a rare chance to run a utility T&D operation from the ground floor with real authority and a bonus tied to the results you drive.

• Anticipated base $145K-$160K, based on experience
• Annual bonus target of 45% of base, with payout that can run above target
• Company vehicle in year one, then a $1,200 monthly vehicle allowance

Overview

• Own the financial results of the Ohio T&D division and keep monthly job cost reporting accurate and on plan
• Win profitable utility work by identifying clients, deciding which scopes to pursue, and keeping a steady bid pipeline
• Lead, coach, and grow project managers and estimators, and approve every estimate and contract before it goes out
• Keep multiple jobs safe, on schedule, and on budget, with projects ranging from roughly $200K to $12M
• Build relationships with regional utilities and represent the company in the local market
• Set operating procedures for the division within company policy and plan staffing as work grows
• Work on-site at the office each day (flexible 8-hour schedule, no hybrid) with regular job-site travel and occasional overnights

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field
• Strongly Preferred – 7+ years in electrical contracting with a focus on electrical distribution
• Strongly Preferred – Prior experience leading project managers, estimators, or other managers
• Strongly Preferred – Relationships with utility and other distribution customers in the Ohio market
• Working knowledge of overhead and underground distribution, including boring operations
• Experience approving estimates, bids, and contracts, and managing work-in-progress and cost-to-complete reporting
• Business development experience that secured profitable work on a routine basis
• Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Safe driving record and a valid driver’s license
