Building Products
Manufacturer’s Representative, Boiler Systems
Farmingdale, NY
A long-standing manufacturer’s representative firm serving the hydronic heating and plumbing market is hiring a Technical Relationship Specialist to be the face of its boiler and controls product lines with mechanical contractors across the New York City Metro. You will spend your week in contractor offices and on job sites, demonstrating equipment, solving technical problems, and building the trust that makes contractors ask for these products by name. The role is largely independent and home-based, with daily travel concentrated in the five boroughs. For a boiler-savvy professional who likes people as much as pipes, this is a chance to move into a relationship-driven technical role with real autonomy.
- Anticipated $100K-$120K base, based on experience
- Year-end activity-based bonus, plus commission on tracked projects
- Benefits include: Health, Dental, Vision, 401K w/ match up to 6%, Life Insurance, PTO
- Home-based, with mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use
Overview
- Own a portfolio of roughly 40 to 60 medium to large multifamily and commercial contractor accounts, with a focus on service, repair, and retrofit work, visiting each on a regular rotation so they think of your product lines first
- Run product demonstrations and 1- to 4-hour training sessions that leave contractors able to install, start up, and troubleshoot with confidence
- Be the first technical contact for boilers, controls, pumps, and air separation: resolve Level 1 and 2 issues and escalate the rest
- Support equipment startups and commissioning on job sites with hands-on guidance on piping, wiring, and sensor placement
- Log every call, visit, and follow-up in the CRM right after it happens so the team can see account health
- Build relationships at association meetings, customer lunches and dinners (2 to 3 per month), factory training events, and one major trade show a year, with some evening events running until about 7 or 8 PM and no overnight travel beyond the occasional factory trip
- Reach full independence within about six months, with product training provided on the specific equipment
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Strongly Preferred — 5+ years of hands-on experience with hydronic boilers and boiler controls, including personal troubleshooting in mechanical rooms
- Strongly Preferred — Working knowledge of hydronic system components: pumps, air separators, controls, and sequence of operations
- Experience with commercial-scale equipment, roughly 200,000 BTU and larger
- Ability to demonstrate products, answer technical questions, and teach a class with confidence
- Friendly, optimistic, and disciplined about follow-up without being pushy
- Self-motivated and organized, able to run a full schedule with minimal supervision
- Comfortable with technology: CRM, online manuals, and digital product tools
- Prior manufacturer’s rep, wholesale, or contractor-side experience a plus
- Commercial or multifamily project experience a plus
- Existing relationships with New York metro mechanical and plumbing contractors a plus
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to spend most of the workday in the field
- Based in or near New York City, five boroughs preferred; Long Island (Nassau County), Westchester, and northern New Jersey considered for candidates willing to travel into the city regularly, including some evenings
